SYMI'S STYLE: Transition to Fall

It's been raining here in the desert this week, which is something Symi hasn't experience much in her short life.  With the "cooler" weather, of course I broke out long sleeves and boots for a day! I had fun putting Sym Kid in something other than shorts too.

This outfit is a great transition to fall look.  It has a summer pop of color, paired with some fur and a cream long-sleeve shirt.   Oh, and in case you were wondering, autumn officially starts September 22. It can't come any sooner!

TUESDAY'S TIP: Eliminate Frizz

My hair is very thick and very wavy.  On those days I don't have time to style it (or just don't feel like it), going all natural is my go-to.  There are a million how-to's and tutorials on hair out there, but today I'm going to share one of my simple tips.

If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, this could be a great new routine for you!

What you'll need:

  • Hair Mousse for Curls (I use Suave Captivating Curls)
  • Cotton T-shirt

Step by Step

1.  After showering, ring out your hair as much as possible with your hands.
2.  Apply a palm-size amount of mousse all over hair.
3.  Flip your hair upside-down and use the t-shirt to squeeze out as much water as possible.
(*Tip: By using a t-shirt instead of a towel, you will eliminate a ton of frizz!)
4.  Flip hair back over slowly and let air dry.

Happy Styling Beauties!

Cute and Comfy

Friday's are family day and sometimes we just go where the wind takes us.  No plans, just assured quality time.  Today we found ourselves at one of our favorite parks on the southwest side of town.  Frisbee golf for Charley, playground for Symi, and a beautiful view for me!

When pairing outfits nowadays, I have to keep in mind that I'm packing an extra 20 pounds from baby still...(positive thinking, right?!).  Maxi skirts are always a win because they are uber comfy and can create so many different looks.  I upscaled an old t-shirt of my hubby's recently and paired with the maxi, voila! Cute and comfy attire for the day.

DIY: Wooden Bead Necklace

I have been drooling over the latest geometric jewelry trend and many pieces I have seen are made with simple wooden beads.  I decided to create a necklace of my own and it was so easy (and cheap)!

First grab these items at your local craft store...

Step One:  Pour paint in to the plastic palette.  (I mixed some of the paint to achieve the colors I wanted.)

Step Two: Paint the wooden beads.  I used a pencil to help stabilize the bead while painting.

Step Three: Let dry (overnight if possible).
Step Four: Thread beads on to metallic lace.
Step Five: Tie in a knot at desired length.

THAT'S IT!  YOU'RE DONE!

Happy Creating!

SYMI'S STYLE: Bright and Bold

Being a mom to a little girl is way too much fun!  When Symi Girl was tiny it was fun throwing outfits together, but now that she enjoys getting dressed as much as I like "styling" her, it's a highlight in both our days.  Most days she runs to her closet yelling, "shoes! shoes!" and asks for a bow.  Today's outfit is bright and bold, perfect for summer!

Summer Organizing

Spring cleaning has turned in to summer organization.  I've been taking one room/space at a time and trying to make it more practical and simple.  I took on the nursery closet this week and wow!  Can a 15 month old really accumulate that much stuff?? Sym Kid found all the "new" items laying around very entertaining and along the way created a pretty snazzy outfit for herself.

I have really enjoyed this Target organizer for her clothes.  I filled up 3 boxes this week  (Yes, THREE!) of clothes that are too small. Without having a garage or storage unit, I'm trying to be creative with everything else.

What are some of your organizing tricks or ways of keeping things simple, when it comes to your kids?

Mess-Free Painting

Summers in Nevada prove to be an obstacle at times with the excessive heat.  Staying indoors seems like our only option at times and this is where I have to get extremely creative to keep Sym entertained (and to keep my own sanity).  Sym is all about art right now, so I created a mess-free (always a win!) project for her.

After she was done, I cut open the ziplock bags and transferred her "paintings" on to paper.  I have a wall-art project in mind for her masterpieces that I will blog on soon!

To create your own Mess-Free Painting, here's what you'll need:

  • Gallon Ziplock Bag
  • Acrylic or Washable Paint
  • Duct Tape

Happy painting!
